Horizon Gold DFS: Eyes 2028 production at Gum Creek

Episode Summary

Horizon Gold Limited managing director Scott Williamson talked with Proactive about its definitive feasibility study (DFS) for the company’s 100%-owned Gum Creek Gold Project in Western Australia. Williamson outlined the history of Gum Creek, which operated as a gold mine through the late 1980s, 1990s and into the early 2000s before entering care and maintenance in 2005. Horizon Gold is now planning to restart the project with an initial focus on technically simpler open-pit mining and free-milling ore. The DFS defines an initial 10-year mine life, with production averaging around 100,000 ounces of gold per year, particularly during the first five years. Williamson said the company expects further drilling to add ounces over time. The study is based on a 2.4 million tonne-per-annum processing circuit and indicates an NPV of around A$1.3 billion at the study gold price, alongside an internal rate of return of around 50%. The DFS assumes a gold price of A$5,500 per ounce, while Williamson said the project continues to generate strong margins at lower gold prices due to all-in sustaining costs of just under A$3,000 per ounce. Horizon Gold is beginning project financing discussions for the estimated A$350 million pre-production capital requirement, with debt, equity and royalty funding among the options being considered. The company is targeting a final investment decision in Q2 2027, construction from Q4 2027 and first gold in the second half of 2028. Early works, including potential upgrades to the project camp, could help bring parts of the development schedule forward. Visit Proactive’s YouTube channel for more interviews and company updates.
