Blackbird PLC (AIM:BIRD, OTC:BBRDF, FRA:FBD) CEO Ian McDonough spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about Google's selection of the company's elevate.io video editing platform for its Chromebook Perks programme, describing it as a significant endorsement and a potential opportunity to expand its reach among Chromebook users. McDonough said the selection is an important milestone for Blackbird, which is still in the early stages of rolling out elevate.io and has recently passed 1,000 paying subscribers. "It's off the charts and we're incredibly pleased," he said of the validation from Google. He explained how elevate.io enables professional-grade video editing directly in a browser, letting Chromebook users create and collaborate on video projects without expensive, high-performance hardware. According to McDonough, Google assessed the platform's security and performance across different Chromebook models, including older devices, before selecting it. The initial UK rollout will let Blackbird gauge user interest and engagement. McDonough highlighted around 800,000 Chromebooks sold annually in the UK, with hopes that a successful launch could support expansion into the much larger US market. Around 20 million Chromebooks are sold each year globally, offering significant exposure despite Blackbird's modest marketing budget. Beyond Google, McDonough discussed potential future partnerships with other hardware manufacturers, including laptop, camera and drone companies, as well as software and AI platforms.
