Critical Resources Ltd managing director Tim Wither talked with Proactive about the company’s exclusive rights to acquire a 90% interest in the Greenstars Gold Project in Suriname, adding a second potential gold project to its emerging position in the country. Wither said Greenstars covers around 35 square kilometres and, together with the previously announced project, could give Critical Resources interests across just under 200 square kilometres of granted mining rights, subject to completion of the transactions. He highlighted Suriname’s position within the Guiana Shield and its established gold mining industry, while noting that the region has seen comparatively limited modern systematic exploration. Greenstars is located around 35 kilometres from Zijin Mining’s Rosebel gold operation. Wither said historical and active small-scale alluvial gold workings provide Critical Resources with a practical starting point for exploration. “This really gives investors the first mover advantage,” he said. The existing workings expose parts of the weathering profile, which Wither said should allow exploration teams to begin mapping and sampling quickly. The company expects its initial work to include due diligence and first-pass sampling, followed potentially by auger work and trenching as it develops exploration targets. Wither said the strategy would follow a conventional exploration pathway, with more advanced work dependent on results generated during the initial programs. He also highlighted the potential significance of Critical Resources providing ASX investors with direct exposure to gold exploration in Suriname as the company builds its position in the country.
