Poolbeg Pharma PLC (AIM:POLB) CEO Jeremy Skillington spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's interim results for the first half of 2026, progress with POLB 001 and the milestones investors can expect as its clinical development programme advances. Skillington said Poolbeg Pharma made "incredible progress" during the period, successfully transitioning POLB 001 from trial preparation into active clinical development. The programme is being studied in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma patients, aiming to prevent cytokine release syndrome associated with cancer therapy. The company has completed its first interim safety cohort review and is continuing with the same dose as recruitment progresses across UK clinical trial sites, with additional sites approaching Poolbeg about participating in the study. Skillington also discussed the company's expanding intellectual property portfolio, engagement with the US FDA and commercial research with US payers, work he said has strengthened the package Poolbeg can present to potential pharmaceutical partners. Poolbeg also completed a £3.5 million fundraising, giving it a cash runway into 2028. Skillington said this funds both the POLB 001 trial and the oral GLP-1 proof-of-concept trial, allowing the company to approach potential business development transactions from a position of financial strength. Looking ahead, Skillington highlighted accelerating patient recruitment, the expected start of the oral GLP-1 trial in H2, and ongoing discussions with pharmaceutical companies, saying Poolbeg expects access to POLB 001 data in the near term, providing an early indication of the programme's direction of travel.
