Kingfisher Mining Ltd (ASX:KFM) managing director Chris Bittar spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's strategy to transition from an exploration story towards a near-term development story, led by its high-grade Copper Blow copper-gold project around 20 kilometres south of Broken Hill. Bittar said recent drilling at Copper Blow has confirmed high-grade copper-gold mineralisation and validated the company's geological model, building on historical drilling across the project. Mineralisation has now been defined over around 600 metres and remains open at depth and along strike, offering scope to grow tonnes towards a future resource. "The next round of drilling is probably just purely going to focus on the size of the system," Bittar said, with Kingfisher aiming to finalise a maiden Mineral Resource by year-end. He also highlighted wider exploration potential, with another three to four kilometres of trend essentially untested using modern drilling techniques, to be investigated once the main Copper Blow mineralisation advances towards a resource. A key part of the development pathway is Kingfisher's mining and processing agreement with Broken Hill Mines, giving access to the 750,000-tonne-a-year Rasp processing plant - an option Bittar said offers a lower-capital, shorter-timeframe route compared with a standalone project. Kingfisher is aiming to have a drill rig on site in October, with metallurgical test work under way on the oxide and transitional ore. Work continues at Wellington and Cobar, though Copper Blow remains the company's main focus for the rest of the year.
