Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M, FRA:YZ1) managing director Troy Brice spoke with Proactive's Stpehen Gunnion about the expanding tungsten system at the company's Warby Project in North Queensland, where recent exploration has significantly increased the interpreted scale of mineralisation. Brice said work using modern exploration techniques is revealing a broader mineralised system extending beyond the original interpretation and historical workings. Lightning Minerals has assessed the system at around 4.3 square kilometres so far, while the wider prospective granite contact extends for approximately 13 kilometres. Recent rock-chip sampling has also returned encouraging tungsten results, with five of six new samples grading above 1% tungsten and a peak of 5.5%. Brice highlighted quartz-hosted wolframite as well as scheelite identified in the wall rock, supporting the case for a strong tungsten orebody at Warby. "Every time we touch Warby, we find more," he said, adding that each phase of work is strengthening and expanding the geological model. Phase 3 exploration is now underway, with Lightning Minerals planning a further 270 infill and extended-line geochemical samples. Around 170 soil samples had already been dispatched to laboratories in Townsville at the time of the interview, with roughly another 100 expected to follow. The company is working towards refining its anomalies and identifying a maiden drill target early in the new year, with exploration also identifying tin, gold and copper alongside tungsten, raising the potential for a broader polymetallic system.
