MP Evans Group PLC (AIM:MPE) chief executive Matthew Coulson spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's latest sustainability report, covering sustainable palm oil production, conservation, carbon emissions and smallholder engagement. Coulson said MP Evans has increased sustainable palm oil produced within its mills to 275,000 tonnes, while land set aside specifically for conservation - where no fresh fruit bunches are produced — has grown to almost 9,000 hectares. On community ties, Coulson highlighted that more than 12,000 smallholders are now part of the company's associated smallholder scheme, describing responsibility as "really at the heart of the DNA of MP Evans and everything that we do," with a holistic approach spanning environmental, social and governance factors. Carbon reduction was another key theme. Since starting to report on carbon five years ago, MP Evans has cut emissions every year despite continued growth, "really halving our carbon emissions over those last five years," Coulson said. Looking ahead, he said MP Evans will keep exploring efficiency innovations that benefit the environment, with conservation efforts increasingly focused on biodiversity and sustainable palm oil production set to keep growing.
