Afentra CEO Paul McDade on growth plans & West Africa strategy

Episode Summary

Afentra Plc CEO Paul McDade talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company’s strategic initiatives in West Africa, focusing on recent acquisitions and future plans. McDade shared insights into Afentra’s competitive edge, which stems from its experienced leadership team and robust industry network in the region. Afentra, established in 2021 and standing for African Energy Transition, aims to acquire production and development assets in West Africa. Highlighting the company’s asset portfolio, McDade discussed Block 3/05 and Block 3/05A offshore Angola, where Afentra has increased production by 30% to over 20,000 barrels per day. The newly awarded KON-15 onshore license complements the company’s existing KON-19 licence, strengthening its presence in the underexplored Kwanza Basin. McDade emphasised Afentra’s strong financial position, with nearly $55 million in cash at the end of 2024 and significant cash flow generation. "The acquisitions have been quite spectacular... delivering about $87 million of free cash flow," he noted, underlining the impact of smart deal-making and operational efficiency. Looking ahead, Afentra plans to focus on organic growth and potential M&A opportunities, leveraging its cash reserves and expertise. McDade also outlined the 2025 work program, including further development of existing assets and exploration of new opportunities both onshore and offshore Angola.
